Insurgents launched attacks in PyinOoLwin and Nawngkhio townships as Tatmadaw crushed narcotic drugs production and trafficking which is their main business

NAY PYI TAW August 16

News of the AA/TNLA/MNDAA insurgents’ attack on narcotic checkpoint, inspection vehicle, bridge, school and battalion headquarters in PyinOoLwin and Nawngkhio townships had already been released on 15 August 2019.

The main reason behind the attacks of the insurgents is that the Tatmadaw searched and seized their camps where they were refining narcotic drug in the surrounding areas of Chaungzon, about 3,000 metres southeast of Shaukhaw Village, Kutkai Township from 25 to 28 July 2019. Nine thousand(WY+88) pink tablets and 750 kilos of ICE (at the total street value of over Ks-16 billion), 2,262 five-gallon containers of acid, 356 10-gallon containers of acid, 195 50-gallon containers of acid, 478 barrels of acid, 5,280 bottles of acid, 90 bags of washing soda (brown), 20 bags of bone charcoal, 1,220 bags of white sodium exodite powder,50 bags of white sodium sulphate powder, used in refining narcotic drugs, residential huts, refinery sheds, 1,144 gas cylinders (long),69 boilers, 95 glass steam pots, six large generators, 30 refrigerators, seven deep freezers, 11 washing machines, 40 steel trays for drying, eight steel blenders, five tabletmaking machines, six platform scales, various types of steel trays and bowls and two vehicles were seized at the drug refineries.

Security troops seized about 2.5 million stimulant pills bearing WY letters (worth an estimate of Ks-5 billion), 36 grenades, 52 Icon walkie-talkies and accessories used in making mines from the house of U San Thar Kyaw, Tagundine Village administrator in Yathedaung Township, Rakhine State, who was also a hard-core member of AA, on 8 August 2019.

The Tatmadaw’s seizure of their drug-producing camps and accessories caused great impact because they were their main businesses. Therefore, AA, TNLA and MNDAA insurgents were dissatisfied with that. Consequently, there were nine clashes with TNLA and two clashes with MNDAA in August 2019. The clashes with TNLA insurgents occurred in Kutkai, Tamoenye and Mawhan in Shan State (North) while those with MNDAA insurgents happened in Tamoenye and Chinshwehaw.

Clashes occurred due to the defence of their drug-making camps, trespasses on controlled areas and attacks on Tatmadaw’s administrative convoys of vehicles.

The Tatmadaw halted military movements in five military command areas from 21 December 2018 to 30 April 2019, from 1 May to 30 June 2019 and from 1 July to 31 August with genuine goodwill for non-signatories to NCA to freely carry out peace talks without any pressure aimed at enabling ethnic people to correctly and firmly walk along the democracy path based on their desires and ensuring modernity, development and improvement of socio-economic life of the people. However, insurgent groups committed shooting at innocent civilians, collection of new recruits, firing at military columns and vehicles of the Tatmadaw performing administrative measures and production, distribution and sale of narcotic drugs which can wipe out the entire people, without having any wish to actually secure peace.

The reason of attacks on the narcotic checkpoint, the inspection vehicle, road and bridge, school and military unit headquarters in PyinOoLwin and Nawngkhio townships was not based on military pressures of the Tatmadaw as they said. They responded to the Tatmadaw for their losses in narcotic drug eradication process of the Tatmadaw, destroyed the main route to the border trade and secure and smooth transport facilities, and showed their act without actual wish for peace process being carried out by the government, the Tatmadaw and the entire ethnic people through collaborative efforts.

Necessary response and action will be taken against AA, TNLA and MNDAA insurgents who committed terror attacks showing their acts without actual wish to secure peace and with act of gaining profit over the peace processes.
