CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF OF VIETNAM PEOPLE’S ARMY WELCOMES SENIOR GENERAL MIN AUNG HLAING, HOLDS TALKS

Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, gave a Guard-of-Honour welcomed to Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a goodwill visit to Hanoi, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, at the invitation of Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, at the Ministry  of Defence of  Vietnam (K-2000) this morning.

On arrival at the ministry, the Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by the Senior General was welcomed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and officials. Next, the Senior General and the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army took salute of the Guard of Honour and inspected it. They then made bilateral introduction of the senior military officers from both countries and posed for a documentary photo.

Also present at the welcoming ceremony together with the Senior General were Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, Lt-Gen Soe  Htut and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Counsellor Daw Win Sanda Swe of Myanmar Embassy to Vietnam and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Aung Zeya. The Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army was accompanied by senior military officers  from the Vietnam People’s Army. Afterwards, the Senior General and the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army met at the parlour of the Defence Ministry of Vietnam.

Both sides cordially discussed good relations between Myanmar and Vietnam which have had a long history of friendly relations, further strengthening of the friendship through exchange of goodwill visits, more extensive cooperation between the two armed forces of the two countries in anti-terrorism, maritime rescue measures, natural disaster rescue measures, information sharing and other sectors, exchange of experiences in medical education  and treatment, further cementing of the friendship by exchanging visits of cultural troupes, sports contingents, high-ranking officers and war veterans, and assistance to be offered by Myanmar Tatmadaw when Vietnam takes ASEAN chairmanship in 2020.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army exchanged commemorative emblems and posed for a documentary photo together with those present.
