Senior General Min Aung Hlaing receivesChairman of Press Council of Nepal and party

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Chairman of Press Council of Nepal Mr. Kishor Shrestha and party at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa, here, this morning.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Nepal’s Press Council Chair-man was accompanied by Nepalese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Bhim K. Udas and members of the Press Council of Nepal, Chairman of Myanmar Press Council U Ohn Kyaing (Hanthawady U Ohn Kyaing) and party.

At the meeting, they cordially discussed similarities in religion and background histories between Nepal and Myanmar, enhancement of good relations as both countries are close friends, 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries which falls this year, and further cooperation in all sectors,  the role of media in political changes in successive eras of  Nepal, standing of media in Nepal as an estate which is a main drive for nation-building endeavours and national interest, residing of Gurhka people related to Nepalese in Myanmar since many years, emergence of courageous Gurkha servicemen in the Tatmadaw, and female and male Gurkha officers and other ranks conscientiously discharging duties at the Tatmadaw at present, background histories and peace processes of Nepal and Myanmar which faced internal conflicts, situation to further develop media relations between the two countries, relations between the Tatmadaw  and media in Myanmar, and assis-tance of media in undertaking  sectoral development of trade and tourism sectors between the two countries.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Chairman of Press Council of Nepal exchanged commemorative gifts and posed for documentary photos together with those present.

The Chairman of Press Council of Nepal and party went to the Memorial to Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw) and laid a flower basket to pay tribute to those who sacrificed lives for the State and the Tatmadaw. While in Myanmar, they will pay homage to famous pagodas and visit to significant places.
