Explosion occurs in new Yaychanpyin Village, Buthidaung Township, causing civilian casualties

An explosion occurred at the home of Hsi Ya Mya, son of Ali Hudin in new Yaychanpyin Village, Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State, at about 3 pm on 12 February, killing three persons namely Hsaw Hi Dula, son of Hsi Ya Mya, Ma Ar Di Mar Khadu, daughter of Muhamad and Asma Gyi Kaw and injuring two including Ma Hsaw Li Ma Khadu, daughter of Adu Kawbu, living in the village.
In connection with the incident, a witness said that Hsaw Hi Dula, son of Hsi Ya Mya, found a grenade in the field and brought it home at about 2.30 pm. At about 3 pm, the grenade exploded after being hit with a sword to make a knife. The explosion killed Hsaw Hi Dula and her mother Ma Ar Di Mar Khadu on the spot and wounded Adu Shubi An, Ma Hsaw Li Ma Khadu and Asma Gyi Kaw. The injured were sent to Buthidaung Hospital. Asma Gyi Kaw died on arrival at the hospital. The witness said security troops were being stationed near the village adding that the explosion was not caused at all by those security troops or Tatmadaw.
Tatmadaw members from the local battalion provided necessary medical treatment to the injured and sent them to Buthidaung People's Hospital.
