Senior General Min Aung Hlaing receives delegation led by Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister of Japan H.E. Mr. Toshimitsu MOTEGI at the parlour of Zeyathiri Beikman here this evening.
Also present together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Japanese Minister was accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Military Attaché Colonel Takashi KOMATSU and officials.
Both sides cordially exchanged views on the existing good relations between the two countries and continued bilateral cooperation, Myanmar’s political developments, measures being taken in accord with the instructions of the World Health Organization-WHO regarding COVID-19, cooperative efforts of the government and the Tatmadaw to curb COVID-19 as the outbreak has increased in Rakhine State since earlier this month, the need to consider food security as food is a day-to-day necessity although the COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on global economy and other sectors, medicines, medical equipment and assistance in small industry being provided by Japan, Tatmadaw’s action against the ongoing conflicts in Rakhine State in accord with the law without harming the defence spirit of the security troops there, Tatmadaw’s efforts to speed up the COVID-19 preventive, control and treatment measures, the plan to extend the ceasefire from 1 to 30 September 2020 in all areas except those controlled by the armed groups declared as terrorist organizations by the State in accord with the international standard for eternal peace, matters related to the successful holding the multi-party democracy election on 8 November 2020 and ensuring a free and fair election, and Japan’s plan to send an election observance team.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the Japanese Minister exchanged gifts.
